Meta (Facebook): Bundle Photography system

Marketing that featured or bundled multiple products faced an issue of consistency: over the years, Meta’s products had been shot on different planes (i.e. floating, on a surface, from various angles), with different lighting, different shadow treatments, and many files lacked layers to allow designers flexibility in placement. I was tasked with developing a design system that would work across all touchpoints and possible product combinations. I was also asked to look at how we could better represent products that were confusing to photograph, such as the Elite Strap, which is normally connected to the headset or else falls flat on a surface.

I gathered input from various teams and then composited and sketched a variety of potential solutions, highlighting their pros and cons including flexibility, time needed to compose each shot, and closeness to our brand. Once we reached a consensus, I compiled a wishlist of retail needs and art direction for our photography vendor.

This gallery shows some of the combinations and how the system is able to scale. Once Meta Quest Pro was in development, we decided to introduce an alternate direction so that Meta Quest and Meta Quest Pro would be clearly differentiated, particularly as consumers seek out compatible accessories.
