Google: Pixel Interactive Box

Successful demo experiences drastically increase customer engagement and conversion. For the latest software on Pixel, we needed to identify industry trends and emerging technologies to propose solutions to more effectively communicate high-tech product benefits to diverse audiences.

The demo would also need to be easy to refresh as new phones/features debuted, and made of sustainable materials. Since both the device and the features would be unfamiliar to most shoppers, instructions would need to be clear and friendly while also aligning to Google’s premium, clean white aesthetic on-shelf. In addition, the use cases needed to be based on real life situations yet also fun and delightful.

I worked with our Engineering, 3D Design, and Marketing teams to design this modular demo system. Each box can stand alone or be placed together. For this initial launch we focused on Night Sight, which allows the user to take a photo of an object inside the dark box, simulating night and low-light photography, and Translate, which allows the user to translate any text in real time — in this case, a Japanese train ticket.

For Night Sight we included a relief of the phone in white to help the user understand how to line up the phone in order to take a photo of the object inside the box. For Translate, we had to create a simplified train ticket that would fit within this small space without being overwhelming. For both, we included instructions on the mat below that align to the UI on the phone demo. The large icons on the side of the box draw the user in from across the room without being distracting up close.
